Bali is a paradise that welcomes travelers from all over the world, and the new eGate system at the Ngurah Rai International Airport makes entering this tropical haven even smoother. If you’re planning a trip to Bali, here’s everything you need to know about using the eGate for a hassle-free arrival.
1. Purchase a Visa on Arrival Online
Before you arrive in Bali, you must purchase a Visa on Arrival (VoA) online. This visa is available for travelers from 97 eligible countries. To apply, visit the official website here. The current cost for the visa is Rp. 500,000 (approximately USD 35 at the time of writing).
During the application process, you’ll need to provide your passport details and personal information. Once your application is approved, you’ll receive an electronic visa with a QR code in the top right-hand corner. This QR code is essential for using the eGate upon arrival. Note that the eGate is available to travelers who are 14 years or older.
2. Pay the Tourist Levy
In addition to your visa, you’ll need to pay the tourist levy, which is Rp. 150,000 (approximately USD 10 at the time of writing). This levy is a new requirement for all international travelers entering Bali and can typically be paid online here or at designated counters at the airport.
3. Using the eGate at Bali Airport
Once you’ve arrived in Bali, the eGate allows you to skip the traditional immigration queues and proceed directly to an automated entry process. Here’s how to use it:
• Proceed to the eGate: After disembarking from your flight, follow the signs directing you to the eGate area.
• Scan Your Visa QR Code: When you reach the eGate, you’ll be prompted to scan the QR code from your electronic visa. This QR code will provide the system with your visa details.
• Scan Your Passport: Next, scan your passport as instructed by the eGate. The system will verify your identity and match it with the visa information.
• Entry Processed: The eGate will process your arrival, and if everything checks out, the gate will open, allowing you to enter Bali without further delay.
• Receive Your Stay Permit: After successfully passing through the eGate, you’ll receive an email from immigration containing your visa stay permit. Keep this email as it confirms your legal entry into Indonesia.
Additional Tips
- Age Requirement: Remember that the eGate is only available to travelers aged 14 and above. If you’re traveling with younger children, you’ll need to use the standard immigration lines.
- Keep Documents Handy: Ensure that your passport, electronic visa, and tourist levy payment receipt (if applicable) are easily accessible upon arrival to avoid delays.
- Updates and Changes: The procedures and costs mentioned here are accurate at the time of writing, but it’s always a good idea to check for any updates before your trip.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the Bali airbort had not yet installed eGates for exiting the country and you will need to use the immigration booths at the airport. But we hope that this will change in the near future.
Using the eGate at Bali’s airport is a convenient way to streamline your entry, giving you more time to enjoy the beauty and culture that the island has to offer. Safe travels, and welcome to Bali!
